Via Pribina, the concessionaire of the R1 highway, is currently completing the reconstruction of a 52-kilometer corridor in the direction of Bratislava. The entire lane in the opposite direction was replaced last year.

As part of this year’s renovation, the original top layer of the road surface was removed and replaced with a new asphalt mixture. The total area with a new surface exceeds 290,000 m². All 30,000 tons of old asphalt were recycled at local plants.

The renovation also included new horizontal road markings, which improve traffic visibility and safety. More than 110,000 meters of asphalt grouting was carried out.

The concessionaire, together with the contractor, EUROVIA SK, will complete the work one month ahead of schedule. This was made possible by thorough planning and an efficient construction schedule. The work was carried out with consideration for drivers, even at night, which allowed the work to proceed as quickly as possible.

Night work also contributed to smoother traffic flow during the day and reduced the need for   restrictions. Restrictions were minimal and at least one lane remained open at all times.

The resurfacing is part of a wider program to renovate the R1 Via Pribina expressway, which began in 2023. The final, third phase will be completed in 2026 and will involve the remaining branches of the individual intersections.

At the end of this phase, the surface of the entire Via Pribina highway, including the junctions, will be completely modernized. This is the most extensive renovation since the expressway opened in 2011.

This renovation is an important step towards maintaining optimal safety and comfort for drivers. The Via Pribina project – the first expressway in Slovakia built under a PPP model – in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport of the Slovak Republic confirms the success of public-private partnerships. With its investments, it has been fulfilling the performance indicators set by the public authorities of the Slovak Republic for a long time.
