Via Pribina a;s.has announced the commencement of extensive pavement maintenance on the R1 Via Pribina expressway, spanning a duration of two months.

The PPP project with Public Authority, the Ministry of Transport of the Slovak Republic will undergo crucial works aiming to enhance the road’s condition. The works are scheduled to begin this week, with an anticipated completion date in September 2023.

The maintenance works involve the removal of the worn layer of asphalt through milling, followed by the application of a new surface that will significantly improve road quality and extend its lifespan. Additionally, the restoration of 87 km of horizontal traffic marking on the roadway is included in the project.

Overall, 124,000 m² of roadway will be restored, contributing to better driving conditions and an overall increase in road safety. The fast lane will be the initial area closed for restoration, followed by the restoration of the slow lane.

Maintenance works are divided into four phases:

First phase: R1 Via Pribina, direction Trnava, from km 41,000 to km 38,168

Second phase: R1 Via Pribina, direction Banská Bystrica, from km 38.118 to km 41.950

The Via Pribina expressway has established a long-term commitment to sustainability. In all its projects, the expressway prioritizes not only safety and quality, but also environmental considerations, implementing various methods to reduce the carbon footprint.

This dedication extends to the maintenance work as well.  All milled materials will be promptly transported by trucks from the work site to the recycling centre of EUROVIA SK, ensuring their reuse and further contributing to environmental preservation. In total, we will recycle almost 5000 m3 of asphalt. The Via Pribina expressway put into operation in 2011 as the first Slovak public-private partnership project (PPP) together with the Ministry of Transport of the Slovak Republic, has long been fulfilling the goals of its parent companies VINCI Highways and Meridiam, to provide users with safety and quality and thus contribute to positive mobility.
