Zero injuries across 4 years of Via Pribina modernisation program

  • 131,000 working hours completed without a single injury
  • 52 km of highway and almost 1 million m² of pavement resurfaced
  • up to 80 people working across two shifts, day and night, at peak mobilisation

Via Pribina, Via Pribina Operations and EUROVIA SK have marked an important safety milestone following the completion of the modernisation programme on the R1 Via Pribina highway: 131,000 working hours without a single injury.

R1 Via Pribina highway is a public-private partnership (PPP) project implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport of the Slovak Republic.

Carried out between 2023 and 2026, the programme covered the entire 52 km highway and almost one million m² of pavement. Thanks to close coordination between Via Pribina, jointly owned by VINCI Concessions and Meridiam, Via Pribina Operations, a VINCI Highways subsidiary, and EUROVIA SK, subsidiary of VINCI Construction, the works were completed in approximately half of the originally planned time while maintaining the highest safety and quality standards.

Throughout the campaign, safety remained the priority while minimising disruption for the thousands of road users using the highway every day. The achievement reflects the commitment of all teams involved and demonstrates the effectiveness of strong preparation, coordination and on-site risk management.

Senka Jelenković, CEO of Via Pribina, declared:

„Completing such an extensive programme ahead of schedule is a major achievement, but the number that matters most is zero. Zero injuries mean that everyone who came to work went home safely. This reflects the strong safety culture, preparation and teamwork demonstrated by Via Pribina, Via Pribina Operations and EUROVIA SK throughout the campaign.“

Róbert Šinály, CEO of EUROVIA SK, declared:

,,The scale of the works required continuous day and night operations over four summer seasons. At peak mobilisation, around 80 people from EUROVIA SK worked across two continuous shifts. One of the programme’s most demanding milestones saw a complete interchange reconstructed in just 66 hours.„

The programme concludes the largest heavy maintenance programme undertaken on Via Pribina since the highway opened in 2011, demonstrating that large-scale highway maintenance can be delivered efficiently, ahead of schedule and, most importantly, without compromising safety.
