Silvia Miklovičová, Chief Financial Director of Via Pribina Operations and Via Salis Operations

What inspired you to work in the financial sector? And how did you get into Via Pribina Operations?

I studied at the Secondary Industrial School of Civil Engineering, where I completed a four-year program in civil engineering and economics. During my studies I was already interested in accounting, economics and law. After finishing school, I pursued a university degree in economics and business management to deepen my knowledge. Once I completed my studies, I sought a job where I could apply what I had learned in practice. At the time, Via Pribina Operations was looking for a part-time intern to help implement accounting software into the company at a time when I was interviewing heavily. Intrigued by the job description, I tried my luck and became a member of the operations team in 2012.

Is there a Slovak female figure – historical or contemporary – who has inspired you in your career?

I haven’t really had role models as such; however, throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to meet many inspiring women who are mothers, partners/spouses, or business leaders. Through their intelligence and wisdom, they built a strong reputation for themselves. I still work with some of them today, and I can confidently say that I have learned a great deal from them.

Have you encountered any challenges as a woman in management? If so, how did you overcome them?

Challenges are inevitable in any job—it’s not always smooth sailing. However, my resilience, ambition, and drive keep me motivated to continuously improve and perform at my best.

What advice would you give to young women who want to pursue a career in finance?

 I have two:

 1. Never underestimate yourself, women can do anything they put their minds to.

2. Surround yourself with smarter people who you can learn a lot from.
