Before you travel
Before setting off, take a few moments to prepare:
- Check the latest traffic information and any restrictions along your route.
- Observe variable message signs and follow their instructions.
- Ensure your vehicle is in good technical condition.
- Fasten your seat belt and make sure all passengers do the same.
- Adjust your speed to road, weather and traffic conditions.
- Maintain a safe following distance and avoid tailgating.
- Never use a mobile phone while driving.
Driving in Fog
Fog can significantly reduce visibility and increase the risk of accidents. If you encounter fog:
- Reduce your speed and increase the distance between your vehicle and the one ahead.
- Use dipped headlights or front fog lights where appropriate.
- Avoid using high beams, as they reduce visibility in fog.
- Follow the right-hand edge of the road rather than the centre line.
- Remain calm and avoid sudden braking or lane changes.
In normal driving conditions, maintain a following distance of at least two dashed lane markings. In fog or other adverse weather conditions, increase this distance to at least four dashed lane markings.
