The R1 Via Pribina highway passes through areas where wildlife is naturally present. Protecting both road users and animals is an important part of our daily operations.

Thousands of trees and shrubs line the highway, creating a natural green barrier that helps separate the road from the surrounding landscape. In addition, wildlife fencing along the route helps reduce the risk of animals entering the highway.

Our operators continuously patrol the highway and monitor areas where wildlife activity is more likely. Whenever animals are spotted near the road, warning signs are activated to alert drivers and encourage extra caution. We also work closely with local hunting associations and other partners to monitor wildlife movements and respond quickly when necessary.

How You Can Help

You also play an important role in preventing wildlife collisions.

• Stay alert, particularly at dawn, dusk and during the night when animals are most active.
• Watch for wildlife warning signs and reduce your speed where appropriate.
• Scan both sides of the road, especially in rural and wooded areas.
• If you see one animal, expect others to be nearby.
• If an animal enters your lane, brake firmly while maintaining control of your vehicle. Avoid sudden swerving whenever possible, as this can increase the risk of a more serious collision.
